Hi andre,
the problem is that installation doesn't start at all. I turn on the machine, I select boot from DVD, and I immediately get that error. I tried my Xp x64 disk and it boots without problem. I tried the Vista DVD on a x86 machine and it boots properly. Could it be my configuration?

Try burning the disk again, only recommendation, I can think of. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

On the off chance, you didn't realize it's an ISO image file, I'll tell you about that. Google BurnCDCC, download it and use it to burn your DVD. Yes, it works on DVDs as well as CDs.
Be prepared to wait a bit when you've clicked the final button, since it seems BurnCDCC doesn't want to start immediately. Just when you decide it isn't going to work, the thing gets going, and then burns flawlessly.

I had a problem initially as well, but after burning another DVD, it worked fine. Seems my original burn, on an HP DVD -R was corrupted. Maybe it was bad media? The second one that worked was a Staples DVD +R.
Who knows. I didn't re-burn an HP disk to determine if it actually was the media being the issue.
On another note, it could have been the DVD drive. I have two DVD drives, a Sony DVD RW and a Pioneer DVD RW. The Sony seems to be lagging at boot. It takes longer for the system to recognize it. The Pioneer pops up right away on the boot screen. Not sure why it lags at boot.
FYI, FWIW, and if it helps anyone else, the basic config is (and keep in mind the Pioneer DVD worked at boot and not the Sony DVD): Supermicro X6DAi-G2 Dual 3.6 eM64T Xeon 8 Gigs Corsair DDR2 ECC Reg PC 3200 DRAM AHA2810 SATA with 8 drives (2 -74gig 10,000 rpm mirrored & 6 -300gig 7200 rpm RAID 5) Sony DVD RW DRU-800A ATAPI Pioneer DVD RW DVR-A09 ATAPI ATI FireGL 7100 with two 24" Dell Widescreen LCDs DVI-in
Vista 64bit recognizes all 8gigs. IIRC, XP Pro 32bit doesn't and only sees 3 gigs. I haven't tried XP Pro 64bit yet.

You DID use a conversion program to do the copy and not just copy the .iso file to the DVD, right? 8^)

Try burning the DVD at a low speed, 2x preferrably. Also try using DVD+R media if you have access to such a drive and media for burning. -- -- Andre Windows Connect | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

That seems to help me a lot Andre, if you burn slower, then it obviously takes longer but there's much less chance of it screwing up :o)

Did you convert the ISO and when you burned it to the DVD did you make sure you also selected the Boot option like I have in Nero.
Have you tried and see the files on that DVD? Try the Setup\Install manually

I don't follow what you're saying: I didn't have to convert anything for burning the image with Nero. I just used the "burn image" menu item, with all default settings. -- Pierre Szwarc Paris, France PGP key ID 0x75B5779B ------------------------------------------------ Multitasking: Reading in the bathroom ! ------------------------------------------------

Nero did the conversion for you. The point is that some conversion has to be done either by you manually or by your software. Some people just copy the .iso file to the DVD then wonder why it won't boot.

Oh, I see. Sorry for the confusion :) --

In Nero, you have to make sure you change the settings to DVD, select burn type image and then a Open dialog will pop up, then you will navigate to where the ISO is stored, select it and open then it will start the burn process immediately. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

Thanks folks,
I used nero to burn the image, I tried to start the installation from XP. I selected a separate HD for the installation, but when it reboots, same error comes out
